Per the Idaho Department of Commerce, the outdoor recreation industry generates about $154 million in annual tax revenue for Idaho, produces about $2.2 billion a year in retail sales and services and employs 37,000 Idahoans in the rec-tech sector.
In addition to being ranked year to year as one of the best places to live and do business in the U.S. by publications like the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Outside Magazine, the Boise MSA is the third lowest-cost place to do business among the 15 largest cities in the Pacific U.S. and Canada (source: KPMG). The Sun Valley Area was recognized this month in the Huffington Post as one of the top 10 ski towns in the country.

Proximity and access to the outdoors lifestyle makes Idaho an optimum headquarters for recreation product businesses due to the R&D facilities out their back door. Recreational assets include:
• The Boise Foothills, with more than 135 miles of acclaimed hiking and mountain biking trails
• Bogus Basin Mountain Resort, 16 miles north of Downtown Boise
• Nearly 2,000 acres of parks
• A 25-mile greenbelt along the Boise River
• The new Boise River Park featuring two state-of-the-art waveshapers
• Water activities such as kayaking, whitewater rafting and fly fishing can be found throughout the Boise Valley and all across the state on the Boise, Payette, Snake, and Salmon River systems
• World-famous Sun Valley ski resort, a three-hour ride to the northeast
