Hawley Troxell Announces Merger With Smith & Banks

Boise, ID – August 1, 2015. Hawley Troxell is pleased to announce the expansion of its Idaho presence by merging with the Idaho Falls law firm of Smith & Banks, PLLC, effective August 1, 2015. Hawley Troxell now has offices in Pocatello, Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho Falls, and Reno in addition to its principal office in Boise. Smith & Banks was a four attorney firm led by its founding partners, Marvin M. SmithJeffery W. Banks and Marvin K. Smith. The founding partners, along with Steven M. Boyce and Austin T. Strobel will continue to practice and operate from the Idaho Falls office.

Senior Partner of Smith & Banks, Marvin M. Smith said, “This combination provides us the best of both worlds–we will maintain our Idaho Falls team as is, but have the benefit of the resources and expanded expertise of a larger firm. Hawley Troxell’s strong brand and resources will benefit our clients and allow us to serve a broader range of their legal needs.” Smith is a member of the Idaho State Bar and the Utah State Bar. He practices primarily in the areas of hospital law, medical malpractice, insurance law, general litigation, and alternative dispute resolution, including mediations and arbitrations.

“There are considerable synergies between the two firms,” said Jeffery W. Banks. Banks is a member of the Idaho State Bar and of the American Bar Association, the medical, litigation and family law sections. Banks concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of civil litigation, family law, personal injury, medical malpractice defense and insurance defense.

Marvin M. Smith practiced as a partner with other Idaho Falls firms. He served as District Judge, Seventh District, State of Idaho from 1991 to 1996 and served as Magistrate Judge, Seventh District, State of Idaho from 1988 to 1991. Smith received his J.D. from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Jeffery W. Banks practiced as a partner with an Idaho Falls law firm prior to Smith & Banks. Banks received his J.D. from the University of Idaho Law School. Banks speaks Lao.

Marvin K. Smith concentrates his practice is the areas of medical malpractice, hospital law, civil litigation, personal injury, collections, civil rights, employment law, and wrongful death. Smith is a member of the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel and the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association. He is member of the Idaho State Bar, Federal District of Idaho and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He received his J.D. from the University of Idaho Law School.

Steven W. Boyce practices in the areas of civil litigation, bankruptcy and criminal defense, focusing on real estate matters, business formation and litigation, landlord/tenant law and creditor representation in bankruptcy. He is a member of the Idaho State Bar, the Utah State Bar and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court of Idaho and the United States in Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Boyce received his J.D. from the University of Idaho Law School.

Austin T. Strobel recently received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. Strobel has served as a law clerk for Anderson & Byrd in Ottawa, KS and for Smith & Banks. He was a judicial intern for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas.
