Migration
In-migration tracks the flow of new residents into the Boise Metro. In 2021, over 25,000 people moved into the Boise Metro. The below in-migration charts point to where these folks came from and how old they are. One in five people moving to the Boise Metro are from other counties in Idaho. Of those moving from outside of Idaho, 3 out of 4 are under 50 years old.

Net migration measures the migration both into and out of the Boise Metro. In 2021, the Boise Metro had the fastest rate of net migration of any U.S. Metro* over 500,000. As reflected in the labor force growth seen between 2020 and 2021 the region was gaining 70 people per day on average for a population growth rate of 3.3% or over 25,000 new residents. IRS and Department of Labor data demonstrates most new residents are relocating from California. New residents to the region also represent a broad base of age groups with more than 55% under the age of 34.
